Colors from the Designer House! 

People keep asking what were the exact colors used at the Designer House and where? So here is the list: 

All paints are from my new paint color line from Fine Paints of Europe

Bridget Beari Colors

The finished used and the type of paint was Hollandac Brilliant for all colors! 

Snowball No.2 was used for the trim, ceiling and walls - sprayed in the brilliant high gloss

Truffle No.69 was used for the floor pattern and in the agate

Bolcha No. M15 was in the agate

Beauregard No. M22 was in the floor and the inside trim of the windows

Pickle No. 37 was the bookcase

Baron Boy No. M35 was the handrail and newell post

I am so glad you are all still asking questions about the space even though the Showhouse is over. Thanks for your enthusiasm. Be on the look out for the launch of BBD Metallics coming next month!

The Big Reveal!

Drum Roll Please.......

Here it is the Bridget Beari Designer House room. Well actually it's a back hallway and staircase. I purposely chose the stairwell as a unique space where I could showcase the Bridget Beari Colors and create a dramatic space from nothing. 

You enter the space from the grand foyer. All the colors are from the Bridget Beari Color line - Snowball walls, Beaureguard window trim, Truffle floor, Baron Boy handrail, and Pickle bookcase.High gloss white walls with a painted floor in the octagon pattern - distressed and aged.  A complete contrast to the high gloss painted walls, trim and ceiling. Notice the 200 yds. of flat braid around the room from Kravet. 

The hallway is filled with figurative sketches from Andi Helfant-Fyre from Virginia Beach. The door is upholstered in fabric from Zimmer Rhode with the addition of the antique mirrors and the P.E. Guerin acrylic door handle.

You turn the corner to the left and see our custom built octagonal bookcase in our Pickle color also in the high gloss paint. The bookcase was designed to complement the floor design and the white accessories really make the bookcase pop. I love the white and silver books and the oyster shell balls. 

People have loved the hanging agave leaves! 

As you turn to the stairwell you see the beautiful hand painted agate wall by H.J.Holtz and Son., the real botanical elephant ears from Anne Blackwell Thompson and the chandelier from Moura Starr called Aqua. 

Here is a photo with the chandelier lit. The drapery fabric is from Kravet ( linen and raffia embroidery) with the acrylic pole rods. 

Did you notice our new staircase? We removed the bead board wall that went to the basement as well as the door and wall that entered into the basement. We remade the newell post and handrail to add the glass. This really opened up and modernized this back hall. Can you see that the interior of the window is painted a different color? Only 2 people have noticed that detail. I wish I had a prize to give them. 

The carpet runner is linen over the painted floor pattern. The curved glass at the top of the stairs is incredible! The brighter color green is from the designer's room downstairs but notice how we cut the agate into pieces to meet her paint. It really has the illusion of real stone!

This is the last week the Designer House is open so come out and see me. Next week everything comes down and back to neutral. So sad! 

It has been a fun experience to share the Bridget Beari Colors and Designs with so many people. The crowd has been overwhelming enthusiastic and complimentary about the space and the paints. So until next time......

How and When to use High Gloss Paint

While being at the Richmond Designer House for 2 weeks now, I have answered many questions on how and where to use the high gloss paint. Our room in the Designer House has the walls ceiling and trim all in high gloss but the question is where and how is high gloss used appropriately throughout a home? 

When using high gloss paint there are 3 things to remember: it takes over the room, the way it reflects light, and the flaw factor. 

I love a room in all high gloss - walls ceiling and trim as shown below and similar to what we did at the Designer House. It gives an immediate richness and intensity to the room. 

The Tory Burch showroom painted the ceilings and all the cabinets in high gloss. What a way to grab someone's attention and the orange is a great contrast to the color of her clothes. By painting the ceiling it becomes a jewel box. 

If you choose to only paint one wall or item, this is where it takes over. Your eye goes directly to the gloss and it reflects the colors around it and the light. I am a fan of mixing and balancing the finishes so it one wall is gloss then another item should balance it out like here with the use of the upholstered wall or like our Designer House room with the distressed floor. 

You can also paint a single furniture item. Easy to wipe off and it turns any piece into a focal point. 

I had many questions about it's use for cabinets. It is a great finish but be aware it needs prep on the woodwork for it shows any flaws. 

Tip:  A new kind of extension cord fro Yanko Designs. No more tripping on cords and showing bumps under a rug. Genius!

Working the Richmond Designer House this weekend has been completely rewarding! I loved all the enthusiast response to the Bridget Beari Colors and our fabulous hallway. I would love to show some photos but were holding back for some press coverage.

Half Way to D Day!

We are about 1/2 way to the opening of Pinifer Park the home of the 2012 Richmond Symphony Designer House. I showed you the before shots and the sketches of my room in an earlier post but here is our progress to date! 

H. J. Holtz and Son are doing a great job and finally we have Snowball No. 2 Brilliant finish on the walls and Baron Boy M35 on the newell posts. Snowball is a soft white in a high gloss finish - walls, ceiling and trim are all done in Snowball. It took tons of prep and thanks to River City Renovation these old plaster walls are as smooth as silk! Those Dixie Donuts I brought to the job site every Friday seem to help!

You can see a glimpse of our glass railing. Thanks to 4D Discoveries for delivering the glass in one piece and it fit like a glove! The handrail is not on yet but the glass really does the trick in opening up the space! 

They are sanding the floors for the painted pattern now that the walls are done. Can you see my dark color trim on the inside of the windows? The effect is: once the draperies go up your eye will not focus on the trim but the outside space. 

Here is the famous door of "Door-gate 2012" - ask me about this when all is finished! 

Remember my whole reason for doing this space is to promote Bridget Beari Colors and the 2 new color lines that have just been release! Order your fan decks today!

Joe's been working like crazy on the railing and the stairs along with Rob from Cabinetry and Construction. Here is the Bridget Beari Van outside Pinifer Park. I see we are missing a hubcap - I'd better get Jayne to order that before Traditional Home comes a calling. 

The decorative artist Jeff Ragland from Holtz made his first appearance on Friday to start the agate walls! It is so cool the way he makes it happen. I can't wait!!

First coat on the floors too! 

All the artwork and accessories are here at the shop ready to go! The bookcases are made and being painted in Pickle No. 37. Wait until these go in - FABULOUS!
