Week 2 - Raw!

This will be week 2 of the raw diet. Feeling great, 4 pounds lighter, tons of energy, complexion clearer. I've been very good. Dinner at Ruth Chris for my husband's birthday and all I had was a salad. No wine either. I am caffeine, sugar, meat, and dairy free!

The birthday party today at my in-laws was hamburgers, chips, potato salad, and chocolate cake. I was prepared with my own meal: bean burgers, green salad, and raw brownies. Mine tasted great! The best thing about raw is you never have that gross full feeling - satisfied but not stuffed.

Here is the recipe for the bean burger from the Bit of Raw site. My sister in law even liked the raw brownies. She said they tasted like her power bars. Yum! They are not made with any sugar or flour!

Adzuki Bean Veggie Burgers
gluten-free, soy-free, vegan

Makes about 10 patties.

3 cups adzuki beans, cooked or canned
1/2 cup brown rice (or other) flour
1 medium carrot
3 small kale leaves
3 small mushrooms
1/2 of a medium red onion
1/4 cup sunflower seeds (pumpkin or hemp seeds would work too)
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon tahini
2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon dijon mustard or 1 teaspoon mustard powder
1 teaspoon dill
1 teaspoon cumin

Raw in NYC!

On my last trip to NYC one of my primary goals was to eat at Pure Wine and Food and visit the One Lucky Duck Store. I love Sarma's cookbook. Her recipes are yummy, tasty and fairly easy to make. I have been eating raw for about 8 months then blew it. I wanted some inspiration to get started again. Raw food made me feel so much better  - more energy, less acid, better skin, wrinkles are gone!

The restaurant is located at 54 Irving Place.

This was our menu for the evening:

My first course: tomato/watermelon tartare. The pistachios tasted like pieces of bacon. Tons of flavor!

My husbands first course was the polenta. He said it was the best thing he had to eat for the whole NYC trip and he doesn't even eat raw!

His main course was tamales and mine was zucchini fettucini. Beautifully presented and tasty as well. I did not get a chance to photograph the strawberry shortcake we had for dessert because - well - we ate it before I realized a needed a photo!  YUMMY!

I can't wait for the new cookbook. Buy it now at Amazon!

or buy a T-shirt from One Lucky Duck!

Raw Foodie!

I am now certified as a raw chef after my all day class with famed celebrity raw foodie, Laura Fox.

Check out the wonderful raw food we made from smoothies, pate, dressings, pizza, zucchini pasta, cookies, mock tuna fish, cakes, pies and pudding.

But don't worry I won't quick my day job!
