Rise to the Occasion!

You should always paint your stair risers. The classic paint style would be to paint them white with a stained tread. This gives the stairs a lift and makes the wood stand out. I do this even if I am putting a runner on the stairs. Dark colors hide scuff marks if you don't have a runner. Also always use a semi gloss so they are easier to clean.

For a more whimsical look try different colors or one bold color. Who can beat Jonathan Adler for whimsey!

A big trend I am seeing a lot of these days are stenciled stair risers. Moroccan inspired patterns are hot and trendy.

Or a classic look in the black and white. It reminds me of Italy and the tiled risers.

Tip: The proper way to use a roller on a wall is to dip the roller into the paint tray and remove any excess. Then roll the wall in a "W" pattern without lifting the roller off the wall. Roll in a 3ft X 3ft. space over each W until the space is covered.
