Making the Old Look New

When designing spaces I am often required to use existing furniture or in this case existing cabinets. In this kitchen the client did not want to change the existing cabinets but still wanted an more updated kitchen look. Instead we only removed the old rectangle island and added this bomerrang shaped island with multi levels and multi functions. The new shaped improve the flow and made the island more of a focal point. The kitchen became more interesting and by adding the green distressed finish, the kitchen was updated and more colorful.

The new island incorporates bookcases, mixing center, range top, and bar space.

New granite countertops with an ogee edge were installed.

A bridge of cabinets was added over the sink to create a display center for pottery. Adding interesting details to the cabinets made them look new. New pulls and a faux finished stucco wall helped give this kitchen a more Tuscan feel.

A tumbled marble backsplash was added with colorful medallion tiles randomly placed throughout.

Remember to examine your spaces in terms of how you can improve the function and the look. It may not mean getting rid of everything. It's all in the details!

This kitchen is beautiful! We are getting ready to build a house, and I am seriously considering using tin or stainless steel for our backsplash behind the cooktop (we will have a 12 foot length of cabinet behind the cooktop in the back of the kitchen that needs it). I like an eclectic farmhouse look, and I think this looks really different and country, too. http://www.thetinman.com/install_backsplash.htm
